If you have just finished your language course and you don’t want to lose what you have learnt so far, try these little tips I thought for students at the beginner level.
1. LISTEN to the “sound of the Italian language” at least 10 min a day.
Podcasts. Podcasts are an excellent way to help you to improve your listening. There are plenty of podcasts for different interests and level of Italian.
Movies. Ok these are my tip: chose an Italian film that you like. Watch it with the Italian subtitles and watch it at least three times during a week. I know it sounds crazy but tries it and let me know!
Songs. Why don’t you listen to Italian songs and sing them? Again, try this: choose the song you like the most, learn the lyrics and CANTA!
Here some playlist I created on Spotify
2. SWITCH the Language of your online activities and set your phone in Italian.
It might be hard at the beginning, but, after a while, you are going to learn some new word.
Practice the language with apps. Many students enjoy learning with apps like Duolingo, MemRise, Babble, Busuu. I think apps cannot teach you properly from scratch tough, but for sure can help you build a vocabulary and practice grammar rules like conjugations, articles, prepositions, and so on.
4. New vocabulary (one new word a day).
Do you want to learn a new word per day at your house?
During this pandemic period, we spend a lot of time in our home. Still, we can learn new words. Look around you and start to wonder: “come si dice…in Italian”? Look it up in the dictionary please, do not use only google translate, and write it in a post-it. After a while, you will be surrounded by Italian words! 🙂 and your family will be more than happy! 🙂 🙂
5. Tidy up your notes.
Last but not least. When the term of your language course has ended, it is always a good idea to tidy up your notes. This habit can help you to track your learning process and to have a clear idea of what have you been learning so far.
