The province of Viterbo is characterised by the presence of various thermal springs. The most famous of these for its mythological and literary characteristics as well as its therapeutic properties is Bullicame which provides water to different open air swimming pools and spas. The hyperthermal waters flow from the Bullicame spring in a large quantity and at a temperature of 58 °C. - The hidden little gem CIVITA DI BAGNOREGGIO
The 1200-year-old Civita di Bagnoregio is a village in danger of extinction. Civita has a population of just 10 people who live amid twisting stone paths and centuries-old houses that are perched atop sheer cliffs overlooking deep and ravines (Calanchi). Due to the almost unreal silence and quietness that reign over the alleys of Civita is possible to perceive the beauty of every single detail: the historic buildings with their endless charm, the well-kept homes, adorned with climbing plants, cats that populate the town center and seem to be the only residents…learn more
- CAPRAROLA and its huge Palazzo Farnese.
The Palazzo Farnese was built by the powerful of Farnese family. One of the more preserved Renaissance gardens. The Villa Farnese is situated directly above the town of Caprarola and dominates its surroundings. It is a massive Renaissance and Mannerist construction. It is built on a five-sided plan in reddish gold stone; buttresses support the upper floors. As a centerpiece of the vast Farnese holdings, Caprarola has always been an expression of Farnese power, rather than a villa in the more usual agricultural or pleasure senses. The villa is one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture. Ornament is used sparingly to achieve proportion and harmony. Thus while the villa dominates the surroundings, its severe design also complements the site. This particular style, known today as Mannerism, was a reaction to the ornate earlier High Renaissance designs of twenty years earlier.

- BOMARZO and the Sacro Bosco (“Sacred Grove”) colloquially called Park of the Monsters is a Manieristic monumental complex, it was devised by the architect Pirro Ligorio on commission of Prince Pier Francesco Orsini (1523-1585), called Vicino, only to vent the heart broken at the death of his wife Giulia Farnese (1560).
The park’s name stems from the many larger-than-life sculptures, some sculpted in the bedrock. The park of Bomarzo was intended not to please, but to astonish, and like many Mannerist works of art, its symbolism is arcane. You can find a lot of symbols from Egypt to the contemporary politics and history (for example the Borgias or the Medici’s family…) Many artists were inspired by the Bosco like the Spanish painter Salvator Dalì who made a short movie and completed a painting based on the park. - VILLA LANTE IN BAGNAIA
One of Italy’s greatest Mannerist gardens. Villa Lante features cascades, fountains and dripping grottoes. is one of the most important buildings dating from the 1500s in Italy when catching sight of the splendid park filled with artistic fountains and the beautiful Italian-style gardens. Situated at the end of the medieval town of Bagnaia the villa occupies an area measuring 20 hectares. The town is quite charming as are all small towns in the Tuscia area, but what makes it unique and extraordinary is the villa with its frescoed buildings and breathtakingly beautiful park.
